What is tempered glass?
Tempered glass is also known as safety glass. It's called safety glass because tempered glass won’t break into sharp, jagged edges. Instead, tempered glass shatters into small oval pebbles when broken, so it’s less dangerous. We recommend that glass table tops and table covers in thicknesses of 3/16" to 1/4" be tempered for safety. It’s also a good idea to temper 3/8" and 1/2" tabletops as a precaution, especially if the tabletop has overhanging edges.
