Tempered glass is a type of safety glass regularly used in applications in which standard glass could pose a potential danger. Tempered glass is four to five times stronger than standard glass and does not break into large shards when broken. Tempered glass is manufactured through a process of extreme heating and rapid cooling, making it harder than normal glass.
The brittle nature of tempered glass causes it to shatter into small oval-shaped pebbles when broken. This eliminates the danger of sharp edges. Due to this property, along with its strength, tempered glass is often referred to as safety glass. The thermal process that cures tempered glass also makes it heat resistant. Tempered glass can be used in any situation where there is a danger of the glass breaking due to impact or extreme heat.

Glass Tabletop coverReceived the 12" x 41" - 1/4" thick low iron glass in excellent condition. Packaged like a pro. Everything from edging, corners and size was as ordered. I emailed a question regarding rubber/plastic spacers for under the glass and was answered quickly. Spacers were in the packaging. The narrow cabinet that this glass protects is next to our entrance door. The cabinet top gets a lot of keys, groceries, etc placed on top. The glass top protects like a charm....
GrrrrrrrrrreatWhen I first went on Dulles Glass & Mirror website, I thought, how will I know their technical terms as far as how I want the glass top to look. Well, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that they explained everything out in great detail. I, therefore, ordered a glass top for my end table base. When I received it about 9 days later(this included time to have it made up)I saw that it was so well packed, that the only way it could break, was if an elephant sat on it. When I got it open, it was exactly the way I wanted it, to a T. I took the old glass off the end table and put the new one on right away. I love the way it looks. Heading: paint grinding artistThis tempered, etched, 20 x 20 glass is just what I needed to grind paints, something I haven't done for 25 years. I saved money and a lot of aggravation by using Dulles instead of the closest vendor to me which is difficult to get to because Baltimore is preparing for a stupid Grand Pris Roadrace and making everyone's driving and traffic experience unbelievably unpredictable and annoying.
