Patio Glass Table Tops

Use of glass table tops in patio furniture has become very common in the recent years. For outdoor furniture glass is used in different ways to serve different purposes. It is the way that the glass is used that dictates the type of glass you need. We will break down the most common usages of glass for your patio furniture and describe some questions that may pertain to your specific needs.
Certain size restrictions apply
Glass sits on the legs without any metal frames around the edges:
- In these cases a heavy glass is used with minimum thickness of 3/8" or 1/2".
- A precise measurement is not really necessary as one or so inches of discrepancy will not make a difference in how the glass sits on the legs.
- Glass is always tempered in this case for safety.
- The edges of the glass are normally exposed and need to be finished to a high polish or beveled depending on your preference.
- Most common type of glass used is a clear glass but other types of glass are available.
- Got an umbrella? Don't forget to ask for an umbrella hole in the center of the glass and specify the size of the hole.
Glass sits on the furniture as a cover to protect the surface or provide a smooth surface for usage:
- Glass thickness can be 1/4" or 3/8" depending on the solidity of the surface.
- Precise measurement is not necessary unless glass piece sits within the surface.
- Glass can be tempered or not depending on the solidity of the surface it covers.
- The edges of the glass are normally exposed and need to be finished to a high polish or beveled depending on your preference.
- Most common type of glass used is a clear glass but other types of glass are available.

- Glass thickness can be 1/4", 3/8", or 1/2" depending on the table.
- Precise measurement is necessary.
- For the most of the application, tempered glass or laminated glass is recommended.
- Only option for edge work is flat polished edge.
- Most common type of glass used is a clear glass, however acid-etched (frosted glass) can be used for decor.
- You can have an umbrella hole.

In these patio tables, the best way to replace the glass table top is to physically bring in the table for a precise cut and fitting of the glass. This is because the frame bends when the original glass breaks and even a half an inch of discrepancy prevents the new glass top from properly fitting in the frame. We do not offer at-home estimates and measurements for these types of patio tables, as the difficulty of the measurement at home significantly increases the cost and often results in an improper fit.
