I wanted to let you know that I received my custom glass order two days ago and unpacked it yesterday. It was masterfully packed in two large packages. I used the glass to build a table to put behind my sofa and it came out beautifully. My wife and I love it. It really adds to our living area. I used eight polished nickel shower glass brackets to hold the four pieces of glass together to form the base of the table. The top is 15″ wide and 60″ long. I’ve attached a picture.

Thanks for a great job.

Harold F.

Thanks to Harold for showing us how things are done as far as a truly custom and truly inventive DIY glass table. It really shows the versatility and utility of glass in one’s home. While not everyone has the same DIY prowess as Harold, just simply getting a glass table top as a protective topping surface on one’s existing table, is also an affordable way to add something new to one’s home decor. We will help you customize the glass, or offer you our selection of in-stock sizes. Really, the options are endless… just be sure to choose Dulles Glass and Mirror!

5 Ways to Enhance Your Walk-in Closet with Glass

5 Ways to Enhance Your Walk-in Closet with Glass

Ask people who are serious about their wardrobes and they’ll tell you their ideal walk-in closet design is more like a dressing room than a closet. Treating your closet like a room opens the door to all kinds of exciting features and materials, with decorative glass being at the top of the list.

There are many ways to incorporate mirror and decorative glass into your walk-in closet. We’ve seen some fantastic elements in our work with custom walk-in closets and these are our top five:

  1. Wall backing. Large mirrors create a dramatic effect as a wall backing behind closet organization units. This is especially helpful as a beautiful way to bring in more light into your closet.
  2. Cabinet doors and door inserts. Adding glass inserts to closet cabinetry doors both protects fine-quality items and adds a decorative focal point. We love reeded glass for its timeless appeal. Also, amber crackle glass has a rich, opulent effect for high style master closets and dressing rooms. Another option is modern-looking glass doors with beveled or polished edges.
  3. Shoe and handbag shelves. Glass shelves have taken off in bathrooms, entertainment rooms and kitchens. It’s time to bring them into your closet! Good-quality tempered glass shelves provide a display opportunity for fine shoes, handbags and jewelry; they are a very popular trend in modern closet design. Because they are transparent, glass shelves seem to “float” within the closet and help keep the look clean and sophisticated.
  4. Vanity mirror. Mirrors are most often used in their traditional function as a tool for getting dressed. Closet systems that have a built-in dresser or bank of drawers offer the perfect spot for a display area that is topped with a simple or a beveled mirror. But don’t limit yourself to one area; you can use a wall near a doorway or in another narrow space that doesn’t fit cabinetry and create a dramatic full-length mirror.
  5. Countertop surfacing. Glass is the top pick for incredible-looking countertop and work surfaces in today’s stylish homes. Choose from a huge variety of colors and textures to enhance a vanity top or an island. Another option is to create a design with a glass inlay, combining glass with wood, Formica, RTF or other materials.

What Glass Adds to a Closet

Although a closet functions perfectly well without all of the extras if it’s designed properly, incorporating glass can be a smart decision and here’s why:

  • Glass offers a transparent (or semi-transparent) protection for your wardrobe;
  • A wide range of glass options, such as colored, frosted, sandblasted and textured, allows a stylish integration with other design elements in the home;
  • Glass shelves, door inserts and mirrors allow more light into the closet;
  • A little bit of glass goes a long way; use it in touches to accent only your very finest things

Take cues from your home and carry them through to your closet. Do you own a treasured Mission-style sideboard with reeded glass cabinet door inserts? Add similar cabinet doors in your master walk-in closet. Is your master bathroom outfitted with sculptural glass vessel sinks? Consider a modern touch of glass for your shoe shelves or one eye-catching double-door cabinet with an urban frosted glass insert.

The useful and aesthetic qualities of glass within a closet design are hard to overestimate. Dollar for dollar, glass is an affordable enhancement for your closet that you will enjoy morning after morning, day after day.

I just wanted to pass on a picture of the custom mirror you delivered and installed on Friday. It worked out perfectly!

Please recognize the installer crew (Alex and Victor) for a job well done!

Also, I forget the name of the gentleman who measured, but he must have done a good job of measuring to achieve such a good fit.

Thanks again,
